Position Title: Recovery Coach
Organization: South County Recovery Center (SCRC)
Reports To: Recovery Coach Supervisor
Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday 11am-7pm with flexibility from both employee and employer
Location/Travel: Great Barrington, MA (Occasional travel throughout Massachusetts)
Position Summary
The Recovery Coach plays a vital role at South County Recovery Center by providing non-clinical, strength-based peer support to individuals navigating substance use recovery. Utilizing lived experience and a recovery-oriented framework, the Recovery Coach helps recoverees identify their personal strengths, develop individualized wellness plans, and navigate community resources. This role emphasizes self-determination, ethical boundaries, and personal empowerment to assist recoverees in overcoming barriers to sustained recovery.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
1. Direct Client Support & Advocacy
Establish authentic, supportive, and non-judgmental recovery relationships based on mutual respect, confidentiality, and voluntary engagement.
Assist recoverees in identifying personal strengths, developing recovery capital, and setting achievable goals using their personalized Wellness Plan.
Provide continuous engagement and encouragement through in-person sessions, as well as ongoing support via phone, text, and email.
Connect recoverees to local community resources, treatment options, and recovery support systems; work collaboratively to identify and overcome systemic barriers.
Accompany recoverees to initial mutual-aid support meetings, court dates, medical visits, and other human service providers as requested.
Serve as an advocate, peer role model, and resource guide within a strength-based framework.
2. Ethics, Compliance & Documentation
Conduct initial role orientations covering the principles of self-determination, confidentiality, and the parameters of the Recovery Coach relationship.
Obtain signed Release of Information (ROI) documentation prior to sharing information across systems or providers.
Uphold agency policies, protocols, and the Recovery Coach Code of Ethics at all times; proactively seek supervisory guidance when ethical questions arise.
Maintain timely and accurate documentation of interactions, wellness plans, and resource referrals as required by SCRC standards.
3. Supervision & Professional Development
Actively participate in weekly individual supervision when managing five or more recoverees (or bimonthly supervision for fewer than five).
Engage in ongoing mentoring with the Recovery Coach Supervisor to refine coaching skills and career progression.
Pursue professional development hours and required milestones toward credentialing.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
Lived Experience: Personal lived experience with addiction recovery and experience supporting adults managing substance use disorders.
System Knowledge: Familiarity with addiction treatment service systems, peer recovery values, harm reduction, and community-based human services.
Training: Successful completion of BSAS or CCAR Recovery Coach Training required.
Credentialing: Current Certified Addiction Recovery Coach (CARC) credential OR active commitment to working toward CARC certification upon hire.

Licensing & Travel
Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation for local travel.
Compensation & Benefits Package
South County Recovery Center offers a highly competitive benefits package designed to support employee health, work-life harmony, and community involvement:
Health Expense Reimbursement (QSEHRA): Employer contribution of up to $6,450/year for individual coverage or $13,100/year for family coverage.
Health Expense Stipend: $700/year pre-tax stipend to reimburse medical expenses not covered by insurance.
Berkshire Passport: $750/year annual stipend to support participation in local outdoor, wellness, fitness, or cultural activities across the Berkshires.
Community Wellness: Free full individual membership to the Berkshire South Regional Community Center.
Relocation Assistance: Up to $2,400 in relocation reimbursement available for eligible hires.
Base Salary: $50,000-$55,000 per year commensurate on experience

Recovery Coach
Community Outreach and Engagement Coordinator
Community Outreach and Engagement Coordinator 1.0 FTE 40 hours
Maintain brave space for SCRC participants, upholding Code of Ethics and trauma-informed values
● Work collaboratively with peers to design marketing materials for print, radio, l ocal presentations, and events
● Work with peers to create and adapt presentations to various community audiences: business, healthcare, civic, academic, criminal justice
● Recruit members of the community to the SCRC
● Serve as ambassador/liaison to community agencies, consortiums, and coalitions/task forces locally, state-wide (MOAR, SOAR) and nationally (Faces and Voices of Recovery)
● CAPRSS Accreditation process coordinator
● Work with peers to enhance membership opportunities, recovery support, building of recovery capital, and knowledge of the SCRC through information sessions (membership orientation, outreach committee, etc…) and outreach to community organizations, including schools, health care facilities, local businesses, area churches, civic organizations, etc.
● Coordinate peer recovery advocates to promote the SCRC and educate and i nform the community about recovery obstacles and possibilities.
● Tobacco Education Coordinator for the Department of Public Health Bureau of Substance Addiction Services.
● Ensuring Rural Recovery’s mission is conveyed to the public.
● Create content and post to social media and engage with traditional media.
Skills and Qualifications
Experience in outreach and community building
● Close familiarity with local recovery community
● Extensive knowledge of Berkshire County community, including service providers, l ocal businesses, and community supports, etc.
● Recovery Coach training and Recovery Coach Supervisor Training
● Able to work and manage a flexible schedule including some weekends, nights, and holidays
● Strong program planning and coordination skills
● Strong oral and written communication skills
● Knowledge of group dynamics and solid group facilitation skills including virtual meeting facilitation
● Understanding of or experience with peer-participatory model
Strong skills in computer programs such as Squarespace, Mailchimp, Canva, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
● Experience with strength-based approach to leadership development
● Excellent interpersonal skills and strong interpersonal boundaries
Experience:
Must have lived/living experience with substance addiction recovery
Travel Requirements: Occasional travel throughout Massachusetts
